Solution
An escape room controller that fires the reveal once
Run escape room props, maglocks, lighting and audio from the RELO IO8. Puzzle contacts trigger the reveal once, and the game master resets the room remotely.
Props, lights and sound in one flow
A puzzle closes a contact, and three things have to happen at once: a prop releases, the lighting changes and a sound plays. The RELO IO8 reads the contact on an input, pulses a relay for the prop, sends an Art-Net cue to the lighting and an HTTP call to the audio player, all from the same trigger.
A stored variable locks the reveal behind it, so a player who keeps pressing the button cannot fire it twice.
Reset without walking into the room
Between groups the game master resets everything with a reset button or a webhook. The variable clears, the props go back to their start position, and the room is ready. Nobody has to walk in mid-game to reach a switch.
- Eight inputs for puzzle contacts, sensors and buttons
- Eight relays for maglocks, props and effect gates (24V, 400mA)
- Art-Net for lighting, HTTP and OSC for audio and video playback
- Logic on the device, so the room runs without a PC
A game master panel (coming soon)
With Cueva Interface Builder the game master gets a tablet panel: live state of every puzzle input, a button per prop, and one reset for the whole room. It runs on any iPad or Android tablet on the same network as the RELO IO8.
Wiring schedule
Escape room and immersive, port by port.
Solving the puzzle fires the reveal once. The game master resets the room from a webhook or a button between groups.
| Port | Connected to | Behaviour |
|---|---|---|
| Input 1 | Puzzle contact | Dry contact, press |
| HTTP | Webhook reset | POST /reset |
| Relay 1 | Prop effect gate | Pulse 500 ms |
| Art-Net | Scene lighting | Universe 1, reveal |
| HTTP | Audio playback | POST /cue/reveal |
Questions
Common questions.
A relay can switch a 24V maglock up to 400mA. For heavier locks, switch the lock supply through a relay rated for it. Always keep a fail-safe release that does not depend on the controller.
Yes. Store a value when a puzzle is solved, and check it in a condition before the next one is allowed to fire.
If the software takes OSC, HTTP, TCP or UDP, the RELO IO8 can trigger it and be triggered by it. That covers QLab, most media players and many escape room game engines.
Start with one. Scale when you need to.
