A Global Caché alternative that runs the logic too
Global Caché gateways translate IP to relay. The RELO IO8 does that and runs the logic on the device, so the room works without a control system.
Gateways versus controllers
Global Caché is known for IP gateways: small boxes that take a network command and turn it into a relay closure, an IR code or a serial string. They are reliable and widely supported by control systems, which do the thinking and send the commands.
The RELO IO8 is a controller rather than a gateway. It takes network commands the same way, but it also reads its own inputs and runs flows on the device. A button on input 1 can switch three relays and tell a media server to play, with nothing else in the room.
When to pick which
If you already have a control system and need IR or serial ports, a gateway is the right tool, and the RELO IO8 does not do IR or serial. If you need relays and contact inputs, and you would rather not buy a control system to drive them, the RELO IO8 does the whole job.
Side by side
Global Caché and Cueva Control.
| Global Caché | Cueva Control | |
|---|---|---|
| Role | IP gateway, driven by a control system | Controller with on-device logic |
| Relay outputs | Model dependent | 8 per unit |
| Contact inputs | Model dependent | 8 per unit |
| IR and serial | Yes, on many models | No |
| Protocols | Own TCP API, supported by most control systems | TCP, UDP, HTTP, OSC, Art-Net, RTP MIDI |
| Runs without a control system | Needs something to send commands | Yes, flows run on the device |

Questions
Common questions.
No. It has relays, digital inputs and network protocols. For IR or serial, pair it with a gateway, or send network commands to devices that accept them.
Yes. Send a TCP, UDP or HTTP command and a flow switches the relay. You can use it as a gateway and add logic later.
Start with one. Scale when you need to.
